I’m not sure, but I think I heard each and every one of you snort and scoff, “Has Floyder completely gone off his rocker? For someone who is supposed to be THE BIBLE GUY, he apparently doesn’t know very much about the Miracles of Jesus! Even I can think of a number of people who went away healed after encountering Jesus!”
Well, hang on to your toenails because I am about to make a statement that will knock your socks off: We’re both right!!!! Many a folk went away from Jesus whole after seeking Him for a healing. The thing of the thing is, what actually healed them was …. are you ready for this? … what actually healed them was …. now don’t miss it! …. what actually healed them was … THEIR FAITH!
I’ll bet you’re thinking … “WHOAAAAA!!!!! That’s a mighty bold statement, Floyder!” While it may, in fact, be a bold statement, it’s one that there is lots of scripture to substantiate! For example, Mark 5: 34 – And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague. And, Luke 18:42 – And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
What I find really interesting about this topic is the fact is found in Mt. 13:58 – And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. The “there” that Matthew is talking about is Jesus’ own country. We discover this in Mt. 13:54-57 – 54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
Because His own countrymen had no Faith in Him, Mt. 13:58 tells us And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
Since I am in the process of Provoking your Thoughts, consider this: If the reason Jesus was performing Miracles is because He was the Son of God, then we wouldn’t be able to perform Miracles because we are not! But, according to John, not only can we do Miracles, we can do greater ones than Jesus did! John 14:12 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
And therein lies the GOOD NEWS for us to cogitate on and be Blessed by! We are given the promise of performing great Miracles, for He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. But do remember this – you won’t heal anybody, they will be healed by their Faith!
