So, I’ll give you a minute and let you write down the names of who you think these men are. I’ll give you a hint – – all seven are in the Old Testament! Go ahead, I’ll wait: Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo! Did you get all seven? Well, I’ll share who they are and the verses that claim them to be “Men of God.”

• Deut. 33:1 – And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.
• I Sam. 9:6–15 – ⁶ And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go. ⁷ Then said Saul to his servant, But, behold, if we go, what shall we bring the man? for the bread is spent in our vessels, and there is not a present to bring to the man of God: what have we? ⁸ And the servant answered Saul again, and said, Behold, I have here at hand the fourth part of a shekel of silver: that will I give to the man of God, to tell us our way ⁹ (Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.) ¹⁰ Then said Saul to his servant, Well said; come, let us go. So they went unto the city where the man of God was. ¹¹ And as they went up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, Is the seer here? ¹² And they answered them, and said, He is; behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came to day to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people to day in the high place: ¹³ As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall straightway find him, before he go up to the high place to eat: for the people will not eat until he come, because he doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him. ¹⁴ And they went up into the city: and when they were come into the city, behold, Samuel came out against them, for to go up to the high place. ¹⁵ Now the Lord had told Samuel in his ear a day before Saul came, saying,
• Neh. 12:24 – And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward over against ward.
• I Kings 17:18 – And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
• II Kings 4:1-7 – Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the Lord: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen. ² And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. ³ Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few. ⁴ And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full. ⁵ So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out. ⁶ And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed. ⁷ Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

Moses – Samuel – David – Elijah – Elisha … How you doing so far? Pretty good, I’ll bet! Now, let’s take a look at who the last two are.

• II Chron. 11:2-4 – ² But the word of the Lord came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, ³ Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying, ⁴ Thus saith the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house: for this thing is done of me. And they obeyed the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
• Jer. 35:4 – And I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the chamber of the sons of Hanan, the son of Igdaliah, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:

Shemaiah and Igdaliah – – Did you get either one of them? I didn’t! I do remember reading about Shemaiah, but I don’t remember him being called “Man of God.” Igdaliah, on the other hand, I don’t even remember reading about, even though I have read through the Bible in a year (actually, it took me two and a half years, but that’s fodder for another Blog!).

The reason I shared this today was not to provide you with some really good Bible Trivia, though this is very good Bible Trivia Rather, 1 shared this with you because this information goes to show that you can be considered a “Man of God,” without being well known or famous. Apparently, all you need to be a “Man of God” is the willingness to serve Him and, like Joshua, be willing to say, “Choose ye this day who you will serve, but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord!”
