Will There Be Any Stars in Your Crown?

With the emphasis in our churches today being on Praise & Worship and Contemporary Music, I’m not sure how many people even know the words of this old song anymore, so I will share the refrain with you here:

Will there be any stars, any stars in my crown
When at evening the sun goeth down
When I wake with the blest in those mansions of rest
Will there be any stars in my crown

Crown Prince

The thing that is pretty obvious here is that must be we will have a crown in Heaven.  In fact, when you do a little Scriptural Research, you will discover that we could conceivably have FIVE Crowns in Heaven!   Let’s take a minute and take a quick look at what the Word says about each one.

  • The Imperishable Crown (1 Corinthians 9:24-25) “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate [disciplined] in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown” (NKJV).

As one reads this verse it immediately brings to mind what we are told in Matthew 6:19-21 (KJV) – 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

From this, I am going to speculate that one of the treasures we are laying up in Heaven is our Imperishable Crown!

  • The Crown of Rejoicing – (1 Thess. 2:19) “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming?”

A song that comes to my mind here is WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE:

There’s coming a day when no heartaches shall come
No more clouds in the sky
No more tears to dim the eye
All is peace forever more
On that happy golden shore
What a day, glorious day that will be

What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see
When I look upon His face the one who saved my by His grace
When He takes me by the hand and leads me to the promised land
What a day, glorious day that will be

There will be no sorrows there
And no more burdens to bear
No more sickness, no more pain
No more parting over there
And forever I will be with the one who died for me
What a day, glorious day that will be

Boy, if that isn’t worth rejoicing about, I don’t know what is!

  • The Crown of Righteousness(2 Timothy 4:8) “Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”

As I’m sure you know, the only thing that can make us Righteous is the Blood of Jesus, as we find in NOTHING BUT THE BLOOD:

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Refrain:
Oh! Precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
 This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

It appears that, if you are “Washed in the Blood,” you will have a Crown of Righteousness waiting for you in Heaven!

  • The Crown of Glory – (1 Peter 5:4) “And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.”

Another great, old hymn that fits in here is GLORY TO HIS NAME:

Down at the cross where my Savior died,
Down where for cleansing from sin I cried,
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!
Chorus:
Glory to His Name,
Glory to His Name:
There to my heart was the blood applied;
Glory to His Name!

I am so wondrously saved from sin,
Jesus so sweetly abides within,
There at the cross where He took me in;
Glory to His Name!

When Jesus returns and we all sing “Glory to His Name,” we will qualify for this Crown!

5) The Crown of Life – (Revelation 2:10) “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”

WOW! Personally, I think this is the “Big One!”

So there you have it – – the Five Crowns of Heaven!

Now, you might be thinking, “Floyd, I know we are going to get new bodies when we get to Heaven, but is the reason we are can get Five Crowns is because it will have five heads?”  No, not at all!  BUT – – that does bring up the issue “What are these crowns for?”  If you haven’t done so already, strap yourself in ‘cause this is the very best part of all – – this is the GOOD NEWS – – we get to throw them at Jesus’ feet!  Again, scripture based, not speculation:  Revelation 4:10-11 (KJV) 10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

I don’t know if there will be any Stars in My Crown or not, but I do know that I am looking forward to taking all the Crowns I receive and throwing them at Jesus feet!!!!!
